About Microneedling
Clinically proven to reduce the appearance of acne scars, SkinPen is the first microneedling device with FDA clearance for scar management.
This revolution in scar management works by first creating low level trauma to the surface of the skin encouraging an immune response. The skin then heals and new dermal tissues and blood vessels form, remodeling the scar tissue to leave the skin smoother with improved texture and a reduction in visible scarring.
Recent clinical trials suggest that 90% of people trialled, aged 22 and over, with facial acne scarring said they would recommend SkinPen to family and friends.
3 sessions of this non-invasive treatment should be spaced 30 days apart to start seeing fantastic improvements to the quality of your skin.
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves the use of a device called a dermaroller or a microneedling pen to create tiny, controlled punctures in the skin’s surface. The purpose of microneedling is to stimulate the body’s natural healing process and promote the production of collagen and elastin, which are essential for maintaining skin elasticity and a youthful appearance.
The microneedling device consists of very fine needles that vary in length, typically ranging from 0.5 to 2.5 millimeters. The depth of the needles can be adjusted depending on the specific skin concerns being treated and the area of the body being treated.
During the procedure, the microneedling device is gently rolled or stamped over the skin’s surface, creating micro-injuries or channels in the skin. These micro-injuries are superficial and do not cause significant damage to the skin. Instead, they trigger the body’s natural healing response, leading to the formation of new collagen and elastin fibers. As a result, the skin becomes firmer, smoother, and more youthful over time.
Microneedling is commonly used to address various skin concerns, including:
Fine lines and wrinkles: By promoting collagen production, microneedling can help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Acne scars: The procedure can reduce the appearance of acne scars by encouraging the skin to regenerate and remodel.
Uneven skin tone and texture: Microneedling can help improve skin texture and tone, reducing the appearance of large pores and rough patches.
Hyperpigmentation: The treatment may aid in fading dark spots and areas of hyperpigmentation.
Stretch marks: Microneedling can stimulate collagen production, helping to reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
Microneedling is typically performed by trained and licensed professionals, such as dermatologists or aestheticians. Before the procedure, a numbing cream may be applied to minimize discomfort. The actual microneedling process usually takes around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.
Following the procedure, the skin may appear slightly red or feel mildly sunburned, but this typically subsides within a few days. Patients may notice some improvement in their skin’s appearance shortly after the procedure, but optimal results are typically achieved after a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart.
Microneedling is generally considered safe when performed by qualified professionals. However, as with any cosmetic procedure, there are potential risks and side effects, including infection, skin irritation, or allergic reactions. It is essential to follow post-treatment instructions provided by the provider and protect the skin from sun exposure during the healing process. If you are considering microneedling, it is recommended to consult with a skincare professional to determine if it is suitable for your specific skin concerns and needs.
