About This Course
Fat dissolving, also known as injectable fat-dissolving treatments or nonsurgical fat reduction, is a cosmetic procedure aimed at reducing localized pockets of fat without the need for surgery. It involves injecting specific solutions directly into the targeted areas to break down and eliminate unwanted fat cells.
The most common and well-known fat-dissolving treatment is called “mesotherapy” or “lipolysis injection,” and it typically uses a compound called deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring bile acid in the body that helps with the breakdown and absorption of dietary fats.
Here’s an overview of how fat dissolving treatments work:
Consultation: Before undergoing fat dissolving treatment, patients have a consultation with a qualified medical professional. During this consultation, the practitioner will assess the patient’s areas of concern, discuss their goals and expectations, and determine whether they are a suitable candidate for the procedure.
Treatment area selection: Common treatment areas include the chin (to reduce submental fat, often called a “double chin”), abdomen, flanks (love handles), thighs, and other areas with stubborn fat deposits.
Injection procedure: In the treatment session, the medical professional uses a fine needle to inject the fat-dissolving solution directly into the targeted fat deposits. The solution contains deoxycholic acid or other fat-dissolving agents that help break down the fat cells.
Fat cell destruction: Once injected, the fat-dissolving solution disrupts the membranes of the fat cells, causing them to rupture. The released fat content is then gradually metabolized and eliminated by the body’s natural processes over several weeks.
Multiple sessions: Achieving optimal results usually requires a series of treatment sessions spaced several weeks apart. The exact number of sessions depends on the individual’s response to the treatment and the amount of fat being targeted.
Recovery and side effects: Fat-dissolving treatments are generally considered minimally invasive, and downtime is minimal. However, patients may experience some swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness in the treated area, which should resolve over time.
It’s essential to note that fat-dissolving treatments are intended for small and localized areas of fat. They are not suitable for overall weight loss or as a substitute for a healthy diet and regular exercise. Moreover, these treatments are not recommended for individuals with certain medical conditions or during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
